i think there is a tax credit for replacing appliances with energy star efficient. not sure of the official accounting treatment. not sure if this is ever going to happen, but the obama adminstration was seriously considering doing a cash for clunkers type program for appliances. there would be some sort of tax credit for energy efficient appliance purchases up to some amount. talk died down towards the end of last year, but i heard something about late spring or summer this year. definitely keep an ear out for it though, bc that could quite nice.
