We have an elevator in our 5 floor coop, which opens directly into each unit. The DOB inspection says we can no longer lock these doors. How do others handle this where the elevator opens directly into your apartment?

Thanks,
roy

  1. INSTALL A CARD ACCESS SYSTEM AT THE FRONT DOOR OF THE BUILDING WITH A MAGNETIC LOCK ON THE DOOR THIS WAY YOU ALSO HAVE THE TIMES THAT ANYONE COMES IN THE BUILDING THIS IS ALSO A GREAT IDEA FOR KEEPING THE RIFFRAFT OUT IN THE COLD AND THE SAME CARD READER INSTALLED IN THE ELEVATOR SO THAT THE CARD WILL ONLY ACCESS ITS OWN FLOOR AS WELL OPENING THE FRONT DOOR.THE TENANTS DONT HAVE TO BE UPSET WITH USING A CARD IT CAN BE PROXY SO YOU ONLY NEED A LITTLE TAG ON YOUR KEY CHAIN.

  2. “Everyone and their mother has a fire key and can override the elevator lockout keys. I used to do alot of residential security and there was a rash of thefts using the fire key a few years ago.”

    lol, I carry one myself.

  3. Modsquad is right. Everyone and their mother has a fire key and can override the elevator lockout keys. I used to do alot of residential security and there was a rash of thefts using the fire key a few years ago.

  4. The problem with lock outs in the cab itself is that if a floor above you is open it is pretty easy to hit the emergency stop to gain access to any floor below. Anybody who gains access to the motor room can also stop the cab at any floor. The only true security is to build a small entrance foyer on the floor.

  5. The new condos have key panels right in the elevator that wont let you go to the floor unless you put in the key to push the button. Maybe that can be installed in your elevator?
