I have a couple of closets on which I want to install dummy door knobs. Further, if possible I would like to use the same old door knobs I have in the rest of the house. These old door knobs are the standard porcelain knob on a square bolt. My question is, is there any product that I can use in place of a door knob on the inside of the door/closet (to save room inside the closet)? I imagine it would have to be some sort of plate that screws to the inside of the door with a square hole in the middle and screw to hold the door knob square bolt in place… Does this sort of thing exist and if so, where would I find one?
Thanks
southslope….I went to HOAH to look for just such a thing for the OP and never found it!!!!!
I got all of my door hardware from them. They are really great.
Looking through that website is probably like a porn magazine for you, southslope. Well, almost as exciting as viewing the doors on your website!!!!
Fantastic! Much appreciated

Van Dykes Restorer’s Catalog has what you are looking for.
DIBS, for a financial guy you sure do come with simple and workable mechanical solutions!
I don’t know what the thread sizes are but usually 16 TPI (threads per inch). You could use a bolt that is the correct threads and just a washer on the inside of the closet which would hold the bolt.
Thx NYC sport. The issue is I need some way of attaching the 100yo conventional door knob to the door. The door knob is designed to screw onto a square bolt that goes through the door. I guess the ideal might be a dummy square bolt (a short square bolt coming perpendicular out of a plate) that I could screw onto the door then attach the door knob to. Is there such a thing?
Ordinarily, dummy knobs do not have anything on the inside. You do not put a hole in the door, you just mount half of the door knob to the door with wood screws, leaving out all of the internal knob parts.
If the door is already bored, you could just put a cover plate on the back side. Like this http://www.nusetlock.com/door-hole-covers/nuset-door-hole-cover-brass.html
