Does anyone know if there are outdoor Holiday lighting rules for houses in landmark areas? So tempted to go over the top for my toddler and the kid in me 🙂
Thanks!

  1. DIBS dont forget the santa, rudolph, frosty, elf ferris wheel (only four seats). But my real question is will you run them suring the day or just let them deflate and lay flacid in your front yard?

  2. I live on a landmarked block, and we put up lights every year. So far, no negative feedback. I think Landmarks is concerned only with permanent alterations.

  3. xmas lights make me SO happy. i love putting them up. i love falling asleep with them on and waking up to them. then on dec 26th or jan 2nd i get super super super depressed because the lights go away 🙁

  4. I heartily endorse the idea of unleashing your inner toddler. And I say this as someone who puts up no lights at all.

    Post pictures!

  5. I just put mine up this past weekend but my block is only “calandered.”

I have yet to go to Walmart and get all the blowup Santas, reindeers and snow globes.

  6. You are only allowed to use decorations of a similar style and composition to the historic date of the neighborhood.

So if you live in Brooklyn Heights or Fort Greene, you you can string popcorn, cranberries, and holly, and use lots of candles.

Closer down to PLG, you can use small colored bulbs and colored straw ornaments.

  7. Definitely go for it. I decorate with lots of gaudy colored lights on a landmark block. My neighbors, if they decorate at all, have just a few white lights tastefully intertwined in a wreath, but I go all out. It makes an otherwise dreary time of the year a lot brighter.
