I just purchased a new condo on 4th Avenue and am having major floor issues. The floors are uneven, lifting and separating, and not nailed down in many locations. I need to get recommendations on flooring contractors that can come and rip out the floors and install new ones. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Once floors are warped, they’re pretty much done. Not only do you need new wood, but you need the old floors ripped out to be able to lay the new flooring correctly. Also, the sub-floor may be damaged as well or not there, which requires new 3/4″ sheathing at $20-$30 per 4’x 8′ section. It can get expensive so you’ll need to decide if you can live with it a while, or need it done right now. FYI; Installed flooring can cost anywhere between $3-$10 per Ft. Sq. depending on the type of wood and the installation price.

A tip; get a rock solid quote from a contractor that they guarantee. If they won’t, make them or move on. Also, negotiate the price. They have plenty of flexibility.

Good Luck! My credentials; I own a high-end professional contracting company.

  2. I would try Carlos Wood Floors, I’ve used them several times – most recently at a property in NJ. His number is 646-281-2659, tell him Allan recommended him.

    Good Luck,
