My boyfriend and I are hellbent on moving to Brooklyn. We currently live in Harlem and I would like to get all of our ducks in a row months prior. Does anyone know of any management companies that we can check out? Craigslist seems to have the same apartments posted everyday and some people on there seem shady.
Try going on the “neighborhood blogs”; Park Slope, Kensington-Windsor Terrace, etc. I see apartments listed there and it’s a person, not an agency….
True, brooklyn without narrowing down neighborhood(s) is too general.
I know of an apartment near Ditmas Park that will be available soon. If that’s of interest, you can post a way to contact.
right, can’t say you are moving from Harlem (a neighborhood) to a borough (that comprises 1/4 of NYC).
Your search is determined by what neighborhood you are moving to.
the search varies by neighborhood. do you have a neighborhood in mind?
Can you describe what youre looking for? I probably will have a 1-bed Feb 1
Craig’s List has decent listings once you work out which are the scams – fairly easy to see if you get familiar w/ similar offerings posted multiple times.
A few links from my recent search:
Berman: they manage most (all?) of the buildings they list and don’t charge a fee for them. I think all their stuff is in park slope. I saw a couple of their places and they seemed well maintained and reasonably priced:

NY Bits lists a lot of property management companies by neighborhood. Here is a link to their Brooklyn page:

I also had this place bookmarked:

Good luck.
