I have a back yard full of mixed trash – all sorts of stuff – and unfortunately cannot afford to hire the pros or a dumpster. I would like to rent a van and find a dump to bring it to myself but 311 tells me there is no longer anyplace in Brooklyn to bring haul your own garbage. Any ideas? Are there private garbage dumps I can bring it to to save some money?

  1. Thanks for the advice but it really is too much to put out in small amounts for the garbage guys. Besides I once tried to offer money to a civil servant to expedite and matter and did not get the response I hoped for. I find it rather amazing however that the city does not let people simply bring their own garbage somewhere themselves and forces us into the hands of private haulers. Yet another example of why it is so expensive and difficult to own private property.

  2. The sanitation workers are not allowed to take money directly from you. You might want to be a little slicker than waving it around.

  3. i once dropped off a van full of stuff at a waste center called atlas located in east new york, i think on essex. they charged around $100, which i think is the minimum.

  4. call the cops and tell them you believe there is a dead body in the garbage heap. they then HAVE to call the proper authorities to remove it. i learned that by watching law and order
