I realize used car dealers (like rental brokers) have earned themselves a pretty awful reputation, so I’m not expecting much.
I’ve done the usual online searches, and either every car dealer in Brooklyn is the worst one on the planet, or only people who have bad experiences write online reviews of car dealers.
And after careful consideration of the forum categories, I’ve decided finding a minimally slimy used car dealer is a Quality of Life issue.
Thanks,

Ive used Auto Sou Sou for a bunch of cars. The dealers a really nice guy and he really does take care of his customers. He located on Coney Island Ave and Turner Pl, you can take the bus (B68) or the Q train to Beverley Rd and walk to Coney Island and one more block to Turner.
denton – lorenzutti is a wacky italian mechanic located over in the gowanus area – he really only works on euro cars, but he will take in jap too. The guy is very honest, reasonably priced, and extremely knowledgable.
The car dealerships all have “pre-owned” inventory available online now. Just type in bayridgehonda.com and bayridgetoyota.com and you’ll be able to search what they have and get an idea of prices. I think the listings are usually updated daily.
I usually go to Russian mechanics and ask them somebody who goes to the dealer auction. Basically dealer will buy you car from the auction and charge ~$200 for this.
This is way cheaper then looking around on the dealer lots.
Who’s this Lorenzutti guy?
I second Lorenzutti – guy knows his stuff and he will NOT sell you a dud. Very reputable.
I’m in the same search mode. Thanks NSR 🙂
We are keeping eyes out for private sellers who match what we are looking for but I was about to go down that long frustrating path of used car dealerships. Just not worth the risk, eh?
Bob M., if you don’t mind me asking, about how much did you pay for the ’03 CRV through Bay Ridge Honda? That’s one of the models we are looking at. Any year around there.
What kens and Bob M said. If you’re not super mechanically savvy, buy from a dealer. Better yet, buy CPO (certified pre-owned.)
I would NEVER buy from a used car dealer. That’s where all the crap ends up, cars that have been cut in half and welded, Katrina cars, etc.
I’d buy from an individual before a used car dealer.
I bought my car from Roberto Lorenzutti. He is my mechanic and is fabulous and I never worry about the car because he makes sure they are perfect.
