"Simple" Kitchen and Bath Reno
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on anticipated cost and any recommendations on contractor for what I’d like to think is a simple reno/update for a small kitchen and two small baths. In the kitchen, I’d like to change the counter tops and backsplashes (now “60s” formica). Probably to bluestone or granite….

In the kitchen, I’d like to change the counter tops and backsplashes (now “60s” formica). Probably to bluestone or granite. Other than that, I would replace appliances (myself) and change hinges and knobs on good solid wood cabinets, already in place.
In one bathroom (no plumbing to be moved): replace tub, toilet, vanity/sink, and re-tile walls (half way up) and bathtub surround, and floors.
In other (very) small bath, just replace vanity/sink and toilet, paint and paper (some grouting in shower stall needed).
In no cases, moving plumbing….these two bathrooms and kitchen renovated in the 60’s just really need a facelift.
Any guesses on what kind of costs I’m looking at….ball park (excluding bathroom fixtures and appliances)
Can anyone recommend someone who can do all/or part of these jobs neatly and reasonably?
Many thanks
If you have the time you can save a bundle by acting as your own GC & just getting various trades to do individual tasks.
I recommend Zoltan (“Zoli”) Karpi 347-693-1284
He did 2 new bathrooms in the house where I used to live in Park Slope. Current owner picked out & paid for tiles & the cost was much less than what you’re likely to pay most contractors. They are very pleased with the work.
He & one of his crew did a new shower stall and a variety of wall repair, skim coating & some electrical work for me.
Give him a call or email karpizoli at yahoo dot com
They do excellent work.
I have worked with K&C Plumbing and they recently quoted me only $200 to set a new tub. They work very fast and would likely have all of your fixtures swapped out in a day. If you’re having that much plumbing done, I’d steer away from a “handyman” especially when you can get that part done reasonably by a licensed plumber.
Email me if you are interested in getting a bid from them.
Also, I’m not a huge IKEA fan, but they do have some decent sinks, fixtures and vanities that don’t cost a lot.

Dont listen to bsreno. Get a good handyman and pay a very small fraction of that.
If I were you, I’d talk to people in your neighborhood and see what local handyman or super is recommended for this…
Your simple kitchen reno could cost anywhere between 6-12k depending upon kitchen/bath size, accessability, and materials. if you are interested in a more accurate bid/cost ,i could take a closer look. my crew and i would be able to do all of the work. i can be contacted at 775 209 3796. or my email is micahdeary@yahoo.com.
