Pocket Door Hardware
We have original parlour pocket doors in need of hardware. Should installation be performed by a carpenter or a locksmith? Both the doors and the hardware are antiques and I want to make sure it is done properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

NYCscout:
Are you replacing the track and knobs/latches/locks? Understanding door hardware is part of the carpenter’s trade. A locksmith has refined knowledge of the lock assemblies but does not necessarily have finishing skills, so you probably want a carpenter who knows pocket doors.
Crank:
Do you really need to replace the track? If these are original pocket doors, there are no wheels, just a slot on the bottom of the door. Usually a little TLC motivates them to behave better. Some of my recent clients made the DIY mistake of trying to use new Johnson track and wheels only to discover their home is shaped like an ark meets a rollercoaster. It was an expensive mistake. For the rest of my clients, 15 minutes of maintenance pretty much does the trick.
If these are newer doors you can buy Johnson track just about anywhere. I bought a track at Modern Way Lumber on 4th recently ($150).
Do you know where I could get some replacement track, and wheels for my pocket doors?
Do not use a locksmith for woodworking, there is a good chance they could do something you will not be able to repair.
