I used Complete Tile Collection, they definitely have the largest selection. Their prices seem to run from very reasonable to expensive, but after letting the salesperson know my budjet, she pointed out all of the lower cost items.
They also will take the time to help you with design and technical decisions, which I was totally lost with beforehand.

I second Classic Tile on 86th. I have recently had to match tile for small restoration jobs and both times they had what I needed. It seems they have two or three buildings on the block, so plenty of warehouse space filled with tile.

3rd Nemo Tile. Also DalTile has a showroom nearby and their “wholesale/contractors only” location near Home Depot had a lot in stock and helped me.

Most of Classic’s stuff is in stock, if they don;t have it, it comes in the week after you order. They have an ad on Brownstoner- check to the right.
Second Nemo Tile — ask for Monica, she’s terrific and very helpful for those on a tight budget. Mondial Tile also has a good selection.
