Roof Top AC Noise
Can anybody recommend a sound engineer who could come up with a solution to noise generated by a large 2 fan roof top AC condenser. All fan noise no vibrations. My RadioShack meter says about 12Db increase when they’re on. Not really a legal issue. Tenant has agreed to fix since it is the owner…

Thanks zberlin, I will definitely call tomorrow. Agreed it’s not much of a difference. The ambient sound measured on the roof outside was 72 Db with fans turned off and 84 Db with both fans going. The AC unit is next to a 100 year old skylight that the owner uses for her painting studio, thus the problem.
hello modsquad,
12 dB is not very loud to begin with. To give some perspective, its equivalent is a whisper. Secondly, a quick and easy fix is to increase the white noise of the affected space. The Owner can play background music. Another slightly more invasive procedure is to install soundproofed windows. Lastly, because the noise is strictly airborne we are able to install at least two orthogonal solid walls around the unit. The effect is similar what they’ve done on highways. However we need to attach this wall to the structure of the building.
Nonetheless it would be my pleasure to meet the Owner to discuss his/her issue
