I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a good rental broker. We’re especially interested in (but definitely not limited to) Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights and Fort Greene and are leaning toward (but again not limited to) newer/larger construction. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

  1. If you want to save some money-skip the broker. Check out 200 Schermerhorn Street. I live here and like it very much. While we are on the line between Boerum Hill and Downtown Brooklyn, the building and overall location is great. Check it out and save some cash!

  2. I third the recommendation for Brian Lehner. He has both found me apartments and been my broker as a landlord. Plus, he bears an uncanny resemblance to Christopher Walken.

  3. I second the rec. of Brian Lehner. I’ve never rented from him, but I use him to rent my units (my family has used him for as long as he’s been in the Heights) and he’s always been straight forward and no b.s. and more often than not be brings in solid tenants who stay for years.

    Good luck

  4. Brian Lehner at Brown Harris Stevens showed me a couple of places in 2007 in Brooklyn Heights, and it looks like he is still an agent in that area:

I’ve remembered him because he didn’t waste my time and showed me places that matched what I told him I wanted. He was professional and didn’t try to push anything or convince me that the 750 sq. ft. 2 bedroom I just saw was “spacious”.

I didn’t end up renting from him, so my experience was limited to 3 or 4 conversations and a couple of apartment showings, but he made a good impression on me.

I’m not sure how much new construction stuff he’s likely to have. Mostly older buildings in his area.
