Park Slope South
My wife and I are trying to purchase a property in South Slope. We have an accepted offer on a property in South Slope/Greenwood. It is a two-family in the 600k’s, which is structurally sound but needs cosmetic work (think Grandma’s house). Does anyone have some comps for properties in this area? Other advice? How…
My wife and I are trying to purchase a property in South Slope. We have an accepted offer on a property in South Slope/Greenwood. It is a two-family in the 600k’s, which is structurally sound but needs cosmetic work (think Grandma’s house). Does anyone have some comps for properties in this area? Other advice? How is life there? We’re moving from Clinton Hill strictly for improved schools. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for all the great tips! Hopefully we’ll be moving there soon…..
Welcome-
We share the enthsiasm of the other posters.
Good bakeries too. Quiet and safe if somewhat odd looking neighborhood. We love it here since we moved. People are low key and friendly. The CSA veggie pickup at slope park is great. Some of the little houses would be absolute gems if people fixed them up- probably one of the biggest concentration of civil war era frame houses left in the city.
Welcome to GH 🙂 It’s very lovely here (I’m biased, I live here!) Good subway and bus access, good restaurants and bars, less crowded than Park Slope proper, pretty safe at night. If I may take a minute to recommend a few places…
Adam’s Wine Shop on 5th between 17th and 18th Streets. Adam is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about all that he sells. He takes the phrase ‘service with a smile’ to a whole new level.
The dry-cleaning place two doors away from Adams – good service, reasonable prices and they do good tailoring work as well.
The 24 hour laundromat on 5th and the corner of either 20th or 21st (blanking on the exact corner at the moment). They do pick up and delivery and it’s fast and cheap, but best of all, good.
Baba’s Deli on 5th Ave between Prospect Avenue and 16th Street – friendly employees who tend to remember what you like.
Luigi’s Pizza on 5th Avenue and 21st street – yummy and friendly service.
And, if you are a fan of beer, Eagle Provisions on 5th Ave between 17th and 18th has an enormous selection of beers from around the world.
Enjoy 🙂
See the ‘closed sales’ thread today, there’s one. We like it here, close to the park, the cemetery, a lot of things happening in the area. Seems prices are holding up well, considering.
I hope you pay attn to the square footage, a lot of these houses are smaller than condos.
There’s a coupla local mailing lists…
