I don’t normally do this, but I feel compelled to relate the story of the contractor who recently completed a gut renovation of my apartment in a Park Slope brownstone: Nick Perper (NP Classic Construction, 347-268-8717). Nick brought the project in at budget, one month ahead of schedule – how often have you said that?!?

Nick is very knowledgeable about construction, his crew and subs handled all aspects of the job (carpentry, electric, plumbing, tiling, HVAC, etc.), and he was on site supervising the work much of the time. His bid was very competitive, the work is gorgeous, and Nick had clever ideas about solving the sorts of problems that arise when you attempt to bring architects’ plans to life in a 120-year-odl brownstone.

It’s a pleasure to work with Nick, easy to communicate with him. To save money, we decided to order all materials ourselves, from switch boxes and door pulls to tiles and appliances. Nick agreed to the arrangement, helped us select and obtain materials, and was very patient when we encountered the inevitable delays in deliveries. A genuinely nice person and a superb contractor, I cannot recommend Nick Perper highly enough, and would be delighted to provide a reference for him.

  1. Nik re-built our three story building’s staircase due to old, split headers, deteriorated treads/risers, and other issues that were hidden from view when we bought our 1920 brick building.

He, and as importantly his workers, were professional, courteous, clean, and were sensitive to the other tenants and warned everyone when excessive noise/dust was to be expected. They did not do a lot of finish work for us, but the work they did do was great and I strongly recommend them.

  2. Ours was a gut renovation and the total cost was approximately $180,000, including labor and all materials. Nick Perper’s bid was tens of tousands of dollars lower than four other contactors’ bids, though one of the other bidders asked me to let him do the job for the same price after the bids were in!

  3. If there has been one important thing in construction it has always been the right contractor. No doubt! I am starting a project and I URGENTLY need somebody. But………….what about the budget. Is he really reasonable? Please tell us about what he charges with concrete numbers. Thank you
