Hello all… I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a plumber for a teensy job and give me a ballpark on what it might cost. All I need is one valve replaced for the hot water under the kitchen sink. I know the valves themselves only cost about $5 at Home Depot, but I’d rather a plumber do it than chance me messing it up and ruining my newly finished floors.
Any suggestions?
MP, NICE!!! I would love to see “Tinker”‘s insurance policy!! I wonder if he carries the mininum $1,000,000 – $2,000,000 coverages that Licensed Master Plumbers are required to carry by the NYC Dept. of Buildings? The replacement of any non-fire suppression branch piping after a riser shut off valve is required to be filed on a monthly report called an OP-128 by a LICENSED PLUMBER ONLY!!
Tell me something, thetinkerswagon, does your insurance cover you to do work you’re not licensed to do; like change valves on domestic plumbing?
OR, if you create a problem in someone’s home, like a leak that causes damage, or if you cut or burn yourself, or fall of a ladder doing something you’re not licensed to do, will your insurance cover you and the client or will the client’s homeowner’s policy be called into action?
Do you understand why there are licenses and insurance policies for different trades or did I make a big mistake getting my own license and creating a legitimate business and sticking to the tasks I’m authorized to perform?
This is a job for a handyman. Or you can do it yourself after reading a repair manual or online how-to. If you live in a coop, the supers & assistants will do it if you pay for the labor and tip them.
Listen, I have done more or these than i can count without a problem. And though I am not a licenced plumber, a simple repair like this does not require a licensed plumber. And, I have the insurance – just in case. I’ve been very busy lately, but if you wish to call me and we can find a time that we can make this work, I can do it for about half of what a plumber charges. If we can’t find a convenient time, I will give you the name of someone that can do it at a reasonable price.

$300 plus tax maybe. . .
plumbers generally have a call minimum to cover overhead…usually in the neighborhood of $200.00.. remember that you are buying knowledge and experience, not labor and parts
