LPC-Approved Door Maker? Cont'd
If anyone is curious about how bad the door situation is here ya go! We have replaced the original ugly white vinyl windows and the terrible light fixtures with appropriate ones. But now we are left with that terrible door!

I have that same ugly door. I just painted it a matte black until I find the perfect door. It looks a whole lot better and took about an hour to do, costing less than $30.
FWIW- 4 out of 5 entry doors we make are hung on the existing door enframement. Quite often a new door jamb and/or transom was attached/added to the original enframement and it salvageable (although probably paint grade wood). Fabricating a new one will at least double the cost of the fabrication.
i would just wait until you have the funds to replace the whole door entry. along with the door, you’ll have to demo the side panels and do some reconstruction there, and ideally should replace the transom at the same time so you can assure consistent fit and materials, etc. not sure what LPC is approving these days in terms of new construction, but you can get new construction double doors that look fairly contextual. but i think they’re considerably more expensive than salvage, so i’d go with salvage if you can find it in the right dimensions.
CMU I agree with you. But if you paint it w/o LPC approval you may get a violation, which could probably be resolved by repainting it white but maybe not. LPC has no concern about the cost or how long it takes.
Paint the bloody door and get the panes replaced with glass. That’s what I’d do.
$6500 a door? Is everyone here made of money…otoh, amighini has free shipment but no prices…?

Thanks, making me feel a bit better. We are two years into this….Really? More ugly???
The doors and windows that came with our house were more ugly than yours. It took 3 years to replace the windows and 3.5 years to finally find entry doors that fit.
