We have a narrow door to our outdoor space. Sadly, when we leave the door open to get fresh air, tons of bugs fly in. Any recommendations for screen doors, screens, or anything else that works. Our door is only 23″ wide, so well below most standard sizes, even for the hanging bug mesh type screens.

  1. Get someone local to make one, or use vintagedoors.com. You can order the exact size you want. If you have a pet, you can get one with an integrated pet door, which is great.

  2. I actually found the retractable screen quite easy to install. The first one took an hour and a half, the second one- forty five minutes. The installation doesn’t require any special tools. It’s just three cuts and screw it on. I even used an angle grinder instead of the recommended saw and it came out fine.

  3. it’s pretty easy to make one yourself … they have all the supplies at home depot/lowes … cut the frame down to size and add the screen mesh

  4. Several years ago Park Slope Glass made me a custom screen for a similar door. I’m not sure if they still do it but it wasn’t terribly expensive & was well worth the price.
