My son is looking to bid on this unit. Your opinions are appreciated.
He is single, 24 yrs old professional, stable job, working last 2 years near Union Square area.
Yes, it is not in Lefferts Gardens, it’s in Flatbush. Lefferts Gardens IS part of Flatbush, don’t tell that to the hipsters/yuppies that live there but that’s for another forum. Saying that, Martense between Bedford and Flatbush is a mixed bag, Martense CT has some lovely row houses. The Coop buildings look decent from the outside but walking down Church Ave. to and from the B/Q in the wee hours is not something your 24 year old son may look forward to. You should look into Coops in 135 Hawthorne, 80 Winthrop, 50 Lincoln, Ocean Ave above Clarkson etc. first. They may cost a little more but they are slightly closer to the Park, Subway, and those “trendy” restaurants. The resale value and your son’s piece of mind maybe worth it.
It’s not in PLG but he absolutely should consider PLG.
There are more young renters and coop owners arriving in PLG all the time. I have a business associate in his mid-20’s, hip and in the arts, renting in PLG and he told me several friends his age live in PLG too. The NY Times recently had a piece on a bldg full of young musicians in PLG.
That’s kind of a so-so area (and as Bob says, it’s not PLG). Your son should spend a lot of time walking around and hanging out at all times of day to be sure he likes it before buying the apartment. Based on my limited experience with this area (I live several blocks north) I think street noise might be an issue for a lot of people.
Ignore the trolls. They have nothing better to do than stir the shit. Most of the people on this site will try to be helpful.
Tudor,
My personal opinion is that you can get something of the same square footage for the same price in more desired areas with the same proximity to prospect park as well as to manhattan. Try to look into Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace and Kensington.
To those who gave goof informative and great advcie, my thnaks.
I am a Mom of 4 children, all grown and professional. My insights and advice through the years has always been hightly regarded by my children. I don’t give it lightly. Some things, I need to research to give better information. Since home ownership has been a topic in conversations, I have subscribed to Streeteasy. Somewhere in Streetwasy, I read that Brownstoner is a good site. I am not reaqdy for what I read on some of the post to my question here today.
Again, thanks to all.
I don’t think it’s either creepy or pathetic. It’s not as though “tudor” identified him/herself, which might have embarrassed his/her son. I suspect one difference between “CookieCutterBrownstone”and me is that I have a son only a couple of years older than “tudor’s” and can empathize with a parents concern. OTOH< I bought my own house at age 29 and, had the internet existed then, might have been mortified had my parent made a similar inquiry on my behalf.
You just can’t win.
Wow would someone say “my son is looking…” for whatever? Its sounds creepy for the “mom” to that involved and over protective and over bearing on a supposed 24 year old adult “son” ready to being buying a home.
Creepy and pathetic – the both of you but especially you. Next time just ask in the first person, less douchey.
Uh, why do I think this is just an ad for the apartment. “Sporty type” – please!
Thank you all for your response. The price and space are a big draw. He is not that happening type of person, more the sporty type. Likes that it is near Prospect Park. The price is close to what he can afford.
