I hired Jeremiah Runyon to design an extension on my in-laws house in Fresh Meadows Queens. He divided the contract into 3 payments totaling about $7000. I paid him $2400 for the first phase which included schematic design, getting permits ready and lots of other things. After a month, Jeremiah never contacted me and disappeared completely. (If you don’t believe it, look at the previous post above) I discovered he not only disappeared but with my $2400 dollars. but also with several other peoples money totalling about $10,000. Since I never got an ounce of work out of Jeremiah, I had no alternative but to bring Jeremiah to The Queens Civil Court. He never showed up for the trial, and as of today, he has a $2400 judegement on his record. This guy is horrible news to say the least. He is Completely unethical and a total liar. If anyone thinks that I am making this up, or that I am a competitor trying to slander him, I will gladly email the default Court Judgement document to you. Be warned, this is very real. This crook should be put in Jail!!!

  1. My friend designed the WTC Tower 7 and numerous other impressive structures around the world. He is not licensed.

Passing quirky NY State tests does not guarantee excellence in design nor professional integrity.

In Washington State anyone can submit their drawings to the DOB – as long as they meet code. And I did.

Your experience is unfortunate. Please separate this crook from the rest of us who know how to design, draw and build even skyscrapers.

  2. “Designing an extension on your in-laws house, by state law, is the job of an architect.”
” An architect is the core of the construction process.”

    lego of my ego!

  3. Of course I am an architect, it says so on my profile. I know, I know what goes on in the real world – sheesh! For this particular job, a house addition in NY, drawings signed and sealed by a NYS licensed architect or engineer are required to legally start this project. Whether someone “designs” it and finds someone else to sign it is another matter but then you have two parties and costs involved, why not just get the one?

This isn’t really the place to get into this, but here’s the law (first is permissible forms of practice, second is definition of architecture):

  4. Wilson,

Sounds like you are an architect. There is a lot of designing and building going on in NY state, legally, without architects. Please provide the link to the law you are referencing. To my knowledge, depending on the scope of the work, architectural drawing are required for some work. The design can be done by anyone.

  5. Sorry, I didn’t mean to scold but inform for the future. An architect is the core of the construction process. You don’t have to be well versed on construction procedures to know this or easily find out – I think it’s pretty much common knowledge. I posted the website for others (and foundit7) to use in the future.

Not everybody is versed on construction procedures. Some consumers don’t know how to start a job. They rely on professionals to help them.
If they get the wrong info it is not their fault.
Scolding is for little kids not adults.
