We’re doing an interior renvation alter type II for our 4 family brownstone. We need to relocate a bathroom and kitchen and repartition some walls for each unit. But no change of C.O. Is handicap access & sprinkles required for such alternation?

  1. lol it’s always funny when i hear avoiding the architect will save money.
if you need one you better hire one.
if you are changing fixtures in the bathroom, you dont need one. if you are changing where the bathroom is….and the kitchen…. and some walls too???…who else is going to tell you if you need local law 58 compliance???
    the contractor???
    the “engineer”???

    no its the architect
(an expediter who has worked in architecture for 25 years could at least help you get those 2 questions answered)

it all depends on the cost of your construction and the scope of work. all work on one floor?

  2. That’s good question for an architect, in fact I’d recommend you use one for the entire job. I wish I’d used one in many of the work I’ve done in the past to my buildings . I always thought that I would eliminate a cost by doing without. I learned the hard way, now I use Silvia Benelli. She is efficient, follows through, you know how much the job will cost you before you start. The contractor got the drawings and never called me till the job was done.
