Exterminator Pricing?
I have spoken with an exterminator to help us deal with some sort of animal(s) living in the crawlspace below our roof. I have spoken with an exterminator to help us deal with some sort of animal(s) living in the crawlspace below our roof. The exterminator is quoting me $450 for a weeks of traps and abatement for squirrels, $700 if it’s racoons, which it might be.
Do these prices sound right? Anyone have any experiences they’d like to share on the matter?
We tried the traps approach (only $60 setup from Empire Pest Control on Court Street), but only one squirrel caught in two weeks. AND, the same squirrels can come back from as far away as ten miles. See this link for loads of squirrel info: http://unexco.com/SQ1.html.
We cancelled the trapping and went with exclusion — Kingsway Exterminators — the set up a one-way door on the hole in the cornice and the squirrels were gone within two days. The exterminators then remove the one-way door and place mesh over the entry hole to keep the squirrels out. $495 I think is their usual fee.
Downside is numerous screws holes in the cornice and unsightly metal mesh over the ends of the cornice, so a genuine repair is still in order, and it will be more extensive than it would have been with trapping.
We have been recently overwhelmed with mice in our apartment (we’re renters). We’ve done everything that we can, but they are relentless and increasing quickly. We have a cat so we fear using any sort of poison.
Any suggestions?
We had squirrels in our roof and got a $450 quote as well.
That was just to trap the squirrels not actually address entry points etc.
We hired a guy to track down the hole and seal off all entry points. That cost around $300.
We bought a trap for $30 and set it for a few weeks. The squirrels never returned and the trap was never sprung. Problem is solved.
$450 is esentially for the convenience of not having to deal with a live animal or carcass. If you are not too squeemish – Handle it yourself. If you are than $450 is about the going rate.
no serious comments, but for $700 you can get a proper shotgun and a dog. 🙂
