I had a guy from The Deal Contractor Corp. come to my house and assess my basement bathroom because it smells. He told me he needs to break the wall down to see if the toilet/shower has a vent. If there is no vent for the toilet he told me has to run a vent outside. He told me it will run around $1,400. Does this seem like a lot?

  2. Yes, we are licensed plumbers…you are not allowed by NYC code to vent any plumbing fixtures to the front of the house. The only plumbing to the front of the house is the fresh air inlet directly off of the main house drain. Through the roof is the only legal way to vent plumbing fixtures. Let me know what he says when he comes back today. When you said you drained the sink and heard it in the shower sink, did you mean you heard it in the shower drain? That shouldn’t happen with a proper trap seal.

  3. He said the vent is actually going to the front of the house. I think the other bathrooms in the house go to the roof. But he traced the basement one to the front. And he said he will terminate it there. Brooklyn Plumber – are you a licensed plumber?
