I’m looking for a loud doorbell that works from 2 different doors/push buttons. Only ones I can find are modern chimes. I’ve tried Ortov, big boxes. Any suggestions?

  1. Good thought! I’ll check the transformer load today. Since everything I have functions, the wiring must be o.k. so it makes sense I just don’t have enough power for the bells since I added one extra.
    Thanks!

  2. Hmmmm, I think this is possible if all of your wiring comes together in the basement at the transformer, and maybe even if it doesn’t. I am guardedly optimistic that you can do this with the wiring you have, but you need to understand the basic circuit mechanics you are trying to duplicate. Does the voltage supplied by the existing transformer match what your new bell needs, by the way? Do you have a voltmeter by chance? Did each of the original bells ring differently depending on which “push” rang them? I really think you are missing something simple here.

I would would stick with it until you figure it out and not give into getting an electrician.

If I weren’t going away for the weekend, I would swing by. Two DYI’ers are better than I.

  3. I looked at that & it would mean complete rewiring. I have a current set-up w/ 2 bells (one in front of house & one at the garden door) & 2 pushes – one up the stoop & one under. The transformer is in the basement. The current bells were manufactured to function as the current wiring is done so I’d like to just replace one of the bells w/ a louder one. I tried a single-push bell & attempted to modify the wiring but couldn’t get it to work.
    Thanks,

  4. Admittedly, I don’t know what I am talking about, but can you get a regular doorbell, and then splice an extra button onto the wire leading from the original button to the device?
