Takagi Flash T-K2 tankless water heater : any comments? We have had nothing but problems in one of our apartments. And now in another. The heat just shuts off, the water pressure is low – flow pressure, the water temperature is only warm and then turns to ice and now the water color is turning a slight brown color. We have called on 2 different plumbers on numerous ocassions and no one can figure this one out. Once they say it is fixed it no sooner breaks down again. Either the pump is bad or there is air getting into the flow system. We bleed the unit all the time to only have it break down again. And this has really put a hole in our wallet. Now we come to find the unit has been discountinued. Any comments or help?!!
There is a Review on this water heater –

i was wondering about that myself, looking at some of the piping diagrams supplied by takagi…although without seeing the setup i cannot tell how the original installer actually piped the job
A spirovent or air scoop, sure, eman.
MY problem with this is that the domestic side is an open system and the heating side is closed. I think what they really need is a heat exchanger to keep the fresh water out of the heating side.
mp..what do you think about putting in a spirovent as opposed to the automatic air vent that probably exists there now…i think that it would make a huge difference in the air elimination in the system..
from what i hear, the manufacturer does not provide the greatest service…but i would be interested on their take on the situation
We use it for both heat and hot water. Would you recommend the installation of a hot water heater? That is basically our next step. We priced it at 2500$. we think it is a little steep and are checking around as we are not too sure this will resolve all the problems. Since we have been bleeding the system the new problem is not discolored water. Plus it is in a tenants apartment so we really have to act quickly. We have the manufacturer coming in to check the actual units in both apartments but we are not too optimistic a resolution will come out of this visit.
Air gets in through the fresh water. You did say the units are used for heat AND hot water, yes?
If that’s the case, you’ve got to provide a way for the air to escape quickly. You’ll never be able to keep new air from coming in.
Oh and by the way we appreciate all of the above comments. Thank you!
building is located in Clinton hill. we have changed the pumps in both units over and over again. Seems like air is getting in somewhere. The units need to be bled too often to keep them working. It is quite frustrating and any and all help is appreciated. i hope you are right and this will be fixed sooner rather than later. The bills for troubleshooting is crazy!
