My stainless steel kitchen sink has separated from corian countertop. because the contractor who did the kitchen reno GLUED the sink to the underside of the corian. I assume they were afraid to drill into the corian (but not afraid to take my money for a sloppy job). When I get someone to repair this what should they do or not do when attaching the sink? Can one drill into corian or not?

  1. Just know that Corian is typically 1/2″ thick. You may be able to see this where the sink is mounted unless that edge is built up. If you screw anything, just make sure they are short screws.

  2. Going against my self-imposed policy of not posting answers to things I’m not qualified to comment on….
Two of the better contractors I work with tell me to treat Corian as you do hard wood.
If that’s the case, screws into pre-drilled holes should be fine .

  3. the standard practice is to drill and use plastic shields…just get a competent plumber and he should be able to do it..the problem you had was probably due to the glue up being assigned to the cabinet maker, who had no idea and used gorilla glue

  4. my understanding from working with cabinet makers is that you can’t *screw* into corian easily, though you probably could drill holes and have anchors glued in. If I had corian counters, I’d also condider getting a corian sink. It would all be totally seamless.
