I am planning on converting a window in my parlor floor dinning room into a door to be connected to a wrought iron spiral case leading to my back yard.

Questions:

Any recomendations for a company who does window to door conversions?

Any recomendations for a company that can manufacture and install a spiral wrought iron stair case?

Do I need to have an arch. or eng. spec out the details for the wrought iron manfacturer?

Thx!

  1. As above. Sketch & Hammer do good work for good price. Talk with principal for a while to scope out how you get along. One thing is she does not like changes from her design (eg using concealed fasteners instead of top screws.)

Warning about spirals: if you go with a site-built one, try and get the treads welded the way you want. If ours were 2″ further apart, would be lot easier to negotiate, but the iron guy was so concerned about landing in the right place, he placed them too near. And didn’t quite land in the right place anyway. Pre built ones imo are better and can be adjusted.
