I am in Greenpoint. I am a new homeowner and have a question about a heater. I have a two family with tenants in the apartment upstairs. The house is heated by a Weil-McLain Gold CGA. The unit is working, but only seems to be heating the front of the house. The back radiators are cold. I spoke to someone and he said that perhaps I have an air-bubble and need to get the pipes flushed. Does anyone know of a company that does this kind of work? Also, do you find it better to enter into a service contract or handle issues on a case to case basis?

  1. I have a great plumber for heating issues. He is Randy Phillips with RDS Mechanical. He’s from Trinidad and is extremely prompt and the prices are good. He just repaired a toilet and completely replaced the valves on some old steam radiators for $380 including parts and he & his electrical partner replaced the low water cutoff valve on my heater for $600 including parts.

    His number: 848/702-3701 or 917/295-4679

  2. I recently used a plumber in the neighborhood — Rozza (718) 349-2288‎. I found them online because I was in a pinch and didn’t have time for referrals.

    They charge $150 + parts.

They sent two great guys who basically showed me where the on/off switch was in the hallway. It was embarrassing to say the least, but instead of laughing and taking off, they did a full service on the machine. Very nice. Glad to know they are there in an emergency.

  3. this is a very simple situation, you only need to ‘bleed’ the radiators of the air. When water starts spurting you have bled the air. You can buy the little spigot to attach to the radiator at a hardware store. It takes about a minute for each radiator
