I would like to install a programmable thermostat for our PTAC units.

We have the Suburban Dynaline Gas Heating units.

Has anyone else done this? How did it go?

Do you have a good heating & air company recommendation?

  1. Hi there,

I have Trane PTAC units and have successfully installed two different programmable thermostats: Honeywell RTH7400 for one of them and the wireless Venstar (http://www.wirelessthermostats.com/) for two more. Both work reasonably well. I would LOVE to replace my units with the ones like you have, but I’d have to run gas lines all the way to the windows – not worth it.

Anyway, the Venstar thermostat is easier to install since you don’t have to run wires behind the wall. It is more expensive, however. Instructions that come with either thermostat, as well as the ones that came with my PTHPs, are fairly easy to follow – more so for you since your units don’t have the dual heating system that PTHPs have (the heat pump and the backup electrical).

    Hope this helps.
