We are having our first annual End of the World (Or Maybe Not) Party next Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Union Hall in Park Slope. Please remember your ID; as we’ve learned here, Union Hall has a strictly enforced carding policy. The fun will begin at 6:30pm. All are welcome, including occasional visitors to the site with less time on their hands than some of us Brownstoner-addicted bold type regulars. Many of the most adored (and not so adored) posters have confirmed their attendance. We hope to see you there.

  1. Hey Bob–that is strange. My both of my slant sixes started in any weather, any time. You couldn’t stop those things with a sledgehammer.

  2. Dodge Darts reliable??

My ’67 Dart was my first car, and I loved it, but the 225 cubic inch slant six wasn’t great at starting in wet weather. And then there were the incredibly undersized drum brakes–stopping was an adventure!

  3. If Union Hall cards me they might turn me away for being too old. If they don’t I’ll be there–at least until my bedtime 🙂

  4. Mopar–funny about your friend and the dump. I once tried to ditch my 74 Dodge Dart under the FDR (this was back in 1992 when up under the FDR in the 20’s was a kind of no-mans land dumping grounds. I had no money for insurance and no sense, so I took the plates off and just left it there. EVery few months I would go buy and see if it was still there. When the winter ended (it sat there for at least 6 months) I went back, stuck the key in and drove off. Nobody touched it in 6 months! I renewed my insurance and drove the car for another two years before giving it FREE to a friend who drove it to San Francisco. Amazing cars.

  5. Mopar–I have owned two Dodge Darts in my day, both gold with black vinyl top, both four doors. One was a 72 and one a 74. I love those cars. Mine had the slant 6 engine which as far as I can tell (no car expert really) was the most reliable (if not particularly fuel efficient) car engine ever made.
