Reminder: our first annual End of the World (Or Maybe Not) Party is tomorrow night (Thursday, October 16) at Union Hall in Park Slope. Union Hall is typically quite busy, especially on Thursday nights, but they are trying their best to accommodate the ‘Stoner crowd. As such, please let me know if you plan to attend (and if you will be bringing anyone else along) so I can give them a rough idea of the number of people attending. We will kick off the fun at 6:30pm, but if you can’t make it until later on, don’t worry, we expect to be there for a while.

  1. I am looking forward to attending. I have been reading brownstoner for two years and have not commented until now. I feel as if I know all of you and am looking forward to meeting you. These past couple of weeks have been some of the most hysterically funny and interesting posts, reading them has been a highlight of my day. Too bad the What won’t be there.

  2. Still unsure about being there, but if I show up it’ll be early and might have to leave early.

Denton, you bringing wife wife – Do you have two?

  3. Thanks johnife, I have you on the list and appreciate the alternatives. It is looking like it might rain, so the outdoor spaces might not be an option. I’ll leave it up to your good judgement on which venue to use as a backup, since I’m only familiar with The Gate. Others can also weigh in on their thoughts.

  4. Biff (re alternate places):

Loki (5th & 2nd – 5 short blocks away; supposedly one of the best jukeboxes in Brooklyn; was to revival of 5th Avenue what Patois was to Smith Street)

The Gate (5th & 3rd – 6 short blocks away; excellent range of draught beers, outside garden space – though weather doesn’t look like it’s gonna be conducive to hanging outside)

Canal Bar (President & 3rd Ave – 2 long blocks one short block away; kind of a dive bar, walled back garden, good jukebox)

None of these places is as big as Union Hall but all are likely to be less claustrophobic and douchebag-clogged than a near-capacity UH.

  5. I’ll be there. I’m betting that there will be at least one person there claiming to be “The What”, although I’m sure they will be an imposter.

  6. Thanks denton. I look forward to meeting you. It sounds like many people will be there early, which should alleviate any potential overcrowding issues.

Arkady, thanks for responding. To be clear, while it would be nice to at least be able to meet people by their login handle, everybody has the complete right to be as anonymous as the want. If you want to join in conversations and just identify yourself as a frequenter of the site, that’s totally cool. “Hello, My Name Is…” tags are NOT required.
