Hello – Has anyone worked with the architect Richard Perry? We are considering hiring him for a fairly major brownstone renovation. Any feedback to thoughts would be helpful. Also, we would happily accept other architect referrals as well. Thanks!

  1. I feel so lucky to have worked with Richard Perry. We were not sure if a renovation would be practical but after listening to Richard’s ideas and seeing his drawings there was no turning back. His vision transformed our apartment. The other morning I was having a coffee in our kitchen thinking “how is it possible this is the same physical place as before the renovation”?
Our apartment was awkward and run-down. Richard’s changed the floor plan and the space was transformed. Now it is simple, functional and beautiful. We love it.
I didn’t realize how important it is to have a great architect during a renovation project. Each day during the remodeling there were issues that arose. Richard always replied and his knowledge of nyc building codes and construction was instrumental to the success of our project.
We finished on time and I have the highest regards for Richard’s talent, skill, knowledge, professionalism, patience and friendliness.

  2. Eman MUST have been thinking of someone else. We bought our two bedroom co-op in upper Manhattan because it had potential, but we had no idea just how much potential until we saw Richard’s design. It was a beautiful plan. With Richard and Cecelia’s guidance throughout the permitting and construction phases, and with their suggestions on sourcing materials, fixtures and fittings, it is now our beautiful, serene and sensible home. ALL the details were considered and everything works as planned! It was a pleasure to work with Richard and Cecelia. Collaborative, creative, careful – we really could not have wished for better architects – and we highly recommend them.

  3. We recently completed an almost complete gut renovation on our 1907 townhouse in Kensington, with Richard Perry as our architect on the project. The primary aim was to convert our two family house to a single family dwelling, incorporating our modern aesthetic into opening up what was a fairly “chopped up” house, while maintaining some of the beautiful details of a 100 year-old home. Richard’s vision was impeccable, and he was incredibly organized and attentive to details throughout the year+ project. He was very respectful of our budget, constantly helping us come up with alternatives to prohibitively expensive improvements. We know that Richard must work on many projects with larger budgets than ours and he never once alluded to that, but instead treated the project with the same importance as any. As another poster mentioned, he is very calm, and worked well with our contractor to achieve excellent results in the execution of his drawings. He was resourceful in problem-solving during the construction, and he pointed us to many terrific resources for materials. We are now back in our completed home, and are enjoying Richard’s extraordinary work in what is a completely transformed dwelling filled with light and open space – we give him our highest recommendation.

I think the person who posted negatively above must seriously be talking about a different Richard Perry.

  4. Richard’s drawings represented a fresh approach to our apartment combination, creating a great apartment that is both sophisticated, yet family friendly. He is completely accessible, very knowledgeable and has a very calm demeanor that puts you at ease during what could be an overwhelming process. Peter and I highly recommend Richard Perry Architect.

  5. I’ve worked with Richard Perry on several projects and he’s one of the most sensible and talented Architects I’ve ever known.
    I highly recommend him.
