I am wondering if anyone has heard about a european recessed (hidden) pop-up from the floor kitchen trash can? I heard about it from a coworker but can’t seem to find it on the internet … any help is appreciated!

  1. Most central vac manufacturers offer sweeper ports as an accessory. Mine (VacuFlo) does. I never saw much point in it though because the hose is so convenient.

  2. I’ve seen poeple do this in their yards. They get a weatherproof container with a top mounted toe-activated, pop up lid, Thus the lids of their trash cans are somewhat obscured by plantings and the rest of the container is completely submerged. They just line the containers with plastic bags and remove when full. Don’t know if this would be the greatest thing in the house though because you’d have to cut open the floor and would be limited in height by the clear floor to floor thickness. If you have a wood frame house you could have someone build a box for you, sort of like a carpenter’s laundry chute (we had one of these in the house where I grew up – it was below the lowest shelf of a linen closet and had a low tech landing on a plywood platform on to of the water heater) but with a bottom.

  3. I haven’t heard of an in floor trash can, but I have heard of kitchens being fitted with vacuum intake vents along the toe kick, and all you have to do is sweep dust and dirt into the vents and voila think I saw this on HGTV’s ” I want that!”
It certainly wouldn’t handle real garbage, but dust, dirt, cheerios and pet fur definitely.
