The quote is for $14,000 — I’d be interested to find out if the cost is in line with what others have paid for similar work.
that seems like a lot to me. have you gotten a quote from Soxco? thats who i used and i a happy with the work and it was much less than that.. although i only had to replace 4 spindles.. the rest were stripped and refinished.

I think that sounds about right. Are you sure you have to replace them? (We thought we were going to have to replace ours as well but our contractor repaired them by pull them apart and suring up their attachement and internal structure.)
cgbrownstoner, what company is your quote from? we’re using advantage stairs right now for around the same price, and are having some serious problems with them.
A neighbor had his staircase rebuilt (10 foot ceiling, two turns) with new oak for $12k, but he turned the spindles himself and also provided the treads and risers, which he bought cheap at a liquidation auction in Massachusetts.
In other words, that price seems fair.
Considering that my GC wanted 8k for pine stairs to the basement, that don’t sound all that bad.
