Nick gave me a ballpark estimate (written to follow) for my exterior brickwork, finishing work on the renovations done by the previous owner, and installation of a laundry area with some cabinetry.

His ballpark is reasonable and he appeared very knowledgable and trustworthy. He is sending references with the written estimate.

If anyone had any prior experience with him? I saw 2 archived posts for small work, but has anyone done a larger job with him?

  1. I need to add to my original post and also to answer to tanner. I did have one problem with Transcend. My job ran 3 weeks and the last week Nick took his crew to a different job in Staten Island. He subbed out the last part of my job to another masonry company which was to add new brick to the front of my home. Nick promised in the beginning that he would do it so it looked like it belonged to the original building. The subs did a half-assed job and the design and brick color don’t even match the house. When I complained to Nick he said that the color will change to match over time. This is my first house and having no experience with contractors, I beleived him.

Twice after that I made apointments for him to come back and fix a few minor issues with the job and I intended to ask him to do more work in the house for me, but he didn’t show up for either appointment.

Well, its now been a year and the brick still looks lousy. I would add a word of caution when using Transcend and that is to get it in writing that his crew will do your entire job and he will not use subs. Its a shame I had to add this complaint on to what was otherwise a nicely done, but somewhat overpriced, job.

  2. I know this is old, but in the event that someone searches for a rec about Transcend, I thought I’d add this on: Nick just finished a job for us, basically repairing and waterproofing the heck out of our 140 year old brick and stucco building. The estimate he gave was VERY reasonable, the work his guys did was terrific, and when it turned out we needed more extensive work than he originally thought, he didn’t charge us a penny more. Best of all, though–and this is unlike the GC I just got done using for interior work–he came to the job several times a day to make sure all was going great. I wish like hell I’d found and used him for our interior renovation…

I’ll post an even more detailed account of our exp. with Transcend and other folks we’ve used later…

  3. Thanks, Cornetor. Nick said he could start our job the last week of July after he finishes up one he is doing now. He said it should take 2 weeks. I like that he doesn’t seem to overbook so he can get the job done.
We saw him on Thursday and I’m waiting for his written estimate this week.

  4. someone just recently posted a good review of a larger job by Transcend. I’ve noticed maybe 4 or 5 reviews in the past few months, all have been good. They’re on the top of my list for a bathroom reno which we are planning for next month.
