I was looking for a welding company that can make me a cellar door for my home in bed-stuy. I did some research within the community that does this type of work. Most of the contractors didn’t show up, unprepared, or unprofessional. When I called Custom Metal Products, the assistant was professional and pleasant. I was given a scheduled date for the estimate. The estimator was prompt. He was nice and was knowledgable on the type of look I was searching for. He told me that it would be made within two and a half weeks. I thought that was more than enough time to have the cellar door manufactured. The assistant gave me a call in two weeks to set an install date. I didn’t have to track them down for my project/money. The installers were nice and the work was done nicely. I’m going to use this company from now on. Check out CUSTOM METAL PRODUCTS,if you want nice and professional people doing their job efficiently and effectively.

  1. Just my 2 cents: I used these guys for our first house – they were great. Did the job, paid them, they left. Simple.

That first poster was right though – it’s not like it’s the boiler man – I think the line about
“I’m going to use this company from now on” is pretty bogus..

But still – I have used them and no complaints.

  2. I used this company and was very pleased with their work. They created and installed the window guards I have posted on my reno blog as well as my cellar door. The estimator that came out to our house was actually the owner. He had real knowledge-gave us options-showed us pictures-etc. I did not have to GC his guys at all–I was actually astonished at how efficient they were etc. All of this said–I think the initial post is bogus too.

  3. We used Custom Metal Products for a fence and some window guards. While the finished product is nice, we found them to be extremely problematic to work with. Communication and timing were the major problems. All communication had to be initiated by us (i.e. “We had an appointment for workers who didn’t show up. When will the work get done?”) Work crews failed to show up several times, weeks went by and we constantly felt as though we were chasing them down. It took 3 months of riding them to get them to complete the work. When they did eventually do the work it was a good thing we were around because they were prepared to install pieces of lesser quality than promised. It was constant negotiation from beginning to end to get what we was agreed upon in the initial contract. There is still work yet to be completed from a second request. We don’t expect anything at this point.

Bottom line: Proceed with caution! Expect to be the general contractor of their work, and for it to take a while.

  4. While I agree with the previous comments, I just wanted to add that custom metal products did multiple jobs on my house (cellar door, a/c box on window guard, ladder to roof hatch) and I was very happy with their work. They are a decent company that had some real recommendations on the forum in the past. So why the fake post? I guess business is slow these days.

  5. Yeah, who really blogs with phrases like “I did research within the community that does this type of work”? Or “I didn’t have to track them down for my project/money”? Usually, you only have to track them down for your money if they blow off the project. Sure reads like a script. Not to mention, OP’s profile says he’s a renter. How many tenants are springing for their own custom ironwork?

    OP, care to rebut?

  6. yeah, there are a lot of these types of posts lately, and they all sound sort of the same. it’s like a trade association has been handing out a spamming guide to its members with a template for how to post to brownstoner.

  7. Yet another post by someone who never posts any messages and never will again, recommending how great a contractor they are, I mean recommending a contractor. I especially love the claim “I’m going to use this company from now on.” I own a 4 unit brownstone and I can tell you that you don’t often need an iron work company.
