I just received my homeowner’s insurance renewal policy. It seems to go up about 15% every year so I thought I should do some comparison shopping. Does anyone have a good brownstone insurer to recommend (other than Liberty Mutual, which is the company I currently use)? Thanks.

  1. I am in the industry, but not a broker. While 4:08’s comments might be true for some “brokers” by in large brokers work on behalf of their client to find the best insurance at the best price dependent on needs. There are several companies that are now competing for Brownstone-type business and brokers can get you quotes from most of them. Not only Brownstone Agency/Everest, but Distinguished Programs has a program with AIG, Liberty Mutual, Harleysville, etc. My broker got me quotes from all of these and I ended up with the Distinguished Programs/AIG program with better rates than all the others and my broker had my policy emailed within a day.

  2. Brownstone agency seems to have the best rates going these days. Everest Insurance company is making a big play for brownstone accounts and are very aggressively pricing policies.

We got our policy through AB brokerage who essentially places it with Brownstone agency through Everest.

  3. 4:08. FYI…Most insurance “brokers” are fronts for actual insurance companies. They are typically bedfellows and will push their business toward their insurance “partner” instead of finding you a company with the best premium/coverage ratio. I;ve been down that road twice and found better deals when I went directly to insurers.

  4. If you or a family member were in the military try USAA.
They have the best of everything with outstanding customer service.
Customer service is knowledgeable about their products and are polite.
    Easy to deal with.

Their bank accounts offer so many convenient features it is mind bogling.

There is no minimum or service charges to maintain the account.

There investment division is just so so.
