I have tried WD-40, Vasoline and other lubricants. They work for 2 weeks, then the doors start squeaking again. Please help..Thanks

  1. yep, butter and cooking oil — a mixture of canola, olive oil, and vegetable oil works great, and you can just melt some butter and mix it in as well. brush it on with one of those cheap brushes you can buy at hardware store. we did this on all our hinges … ive got news for you, that was over four years ago and since then NO MORE SQUEEKING!

  2. Karka is correct about the graphite, it will last much longer than WD-40 and ball-bearing hinges are permanently lubricated and advisable if they are available in type that you need.

The real problem, however, is that the hinges are not in plane. If the hinge pins were removed and a string was stretched thru the center of each hinge, which one would touch the string. You can examine the knuckles of the hinge and determine which one is offset. The problem hinge can be “packed” between the hinge leaf and the jamb to correct the condition unless the door has warped (due to poor construction methods) then both leaves will need to be moved in the hinge mortise.

  3. You’ve taken the hinge apart and covered all the contact surfaces with new lubricant?
You have tried a graphite based product? Only option left would be to replace the hinges with ball-bearing hinges.
