We took out the very heavy original pocket doors of our 1880 brownstone for stripping, and now we need someone to reinstall them. They have been without a floor track for decades, and so haven’t been used much lately. We need someone either to install a new floor track and hang the doors, or build something strong for them to hang from, etc., so that they can be easily opened and closed. Has anyone had experience with a carpenter or contractor who did this well?

  1. I strongly recommend you forego the track in favor of a suspension system. We moved a huge, heavy set of walnut pocket doors from one room to another after reconfiguring our rear parlor. Our GC used a suspension system he bought at Simon’s on 3rd Ave in Manhattan. In its new location, it moves effortlessly — a much better solution than track.
