Ikea Ovens
Ikea cabinets have gotten pretty rave reviews from forum commenters, so I’m wondering if anyone has experience with Ikea ovens. I’m most interested in the MUMSIG OBI C50 S, which apparently has a special pizza-baking function and is $699. The price seems substantially lower than comparable ovens from other companies. A more general but related question: What are the pros and cons of doing built in oven and separate range vs. the standard oven-range combo.
I’m slowly planning out a massive kitchen overhaul and am carefully considering each part.
Thanks
You can pretty much count on everything from Ikea being crap. You can also count on good service from Ikea until the Brooklyn store has been open a few months. Then they will go back to their usual horrible customer service.
Two questions: Are they gas or electric? Are they self-cleaning?
confirm with ikea but I think they are made by whirlpool so should be able to get service rather easily.
Separate components are more expensive.
If you want economic and decent look try a drop in range where you can get the built in look.
As for perfomance 10:39 is right
Check out Consumer Reports too. I remember seeing Ikea appliances reviewed there in the past.
This is a question you could also ask on thathomesite.com in the appliance forum. They are obsessed to the nth degree and I’m sure you’ll get some great feedback. I don’t think I’d buy an oven at that price point based on one extra function. As for range vs. cook top and oven combo, I think it’s really a matter of personal preference. Separate components would give you some layout flexibility if that is important to you.
The key thing you should ask Ikea about their appliances would be how service and repairs are done and who does them – does Ikea subcontract out to appliance service companies and if so, how many service places do they have set up locally for you? I know someone with an exotic clothes washer who waited two months to get it repaired. Can you imagine? I once had an expensive Australian brand dishwasher, this was 12 years ago back when very few lines made stainless fronts but this one did so I bought it. It took me an entire month just to find out who to even call for service! It’s just not worth saving the money on an Ikea stove if that’s what you’d have to experience.
Me, I’d go for a moderate level American brand. I’ve mostly always had those (other than the Australian dishwasher and our present Bosch dishwasher which we don’t like) and I’ve always been happy with both their performance and with accessibility of people to call if I need service. Our new fridge was making a weird noise, an American brand, mid-level line, and I was easily able to get a service guy in two days later. No biggie. And the noise turned out to be a package of frozen peas sitting on top of the ice thing. My mistake, not a flaw in the fridge!
