Please whatever you do don’t use the following contractors. They are completely unreliable, dishonest and rip-off artist. They’ll lie for just about anything. One contractors name is Babou Adoyne. He purports to be an upstanding person and will charge exhorbitant prices and not complete the job. He’s supposed to be a good woodwork guy and was hired to work for me for 2 months to replace my doors and strip some molding. The job started in December and he never finished. His men quit on him and they said he never paid them. It was the 2nd worst contracting experience I had since I’ve owned my home. So, please, please if you meet him, please stand clear.

The other bad contractor is Michele Bruno. He too is dishonest, unreliable and very expensive. After a spending a significant amount of money with him two years ago — which i sorely regret — my house doesn’t even look like he did anything to it. He was a bully and completely untrustworthy. So please, stay clear of him as well.

  1. I used Michele Bruni (not Bruno!) too a couple of years ago, and it was not a good experience. Partially our fault since we did not check thouroughly the selective references he gave us, nor we nailed him down sufficiently on the pricing. Anyway , what’s done is done but a good suggestion for brownstoner for a truly useful service: couldn’t you keep a database of people who have used a number of contractors, and furnish e-mails/telephone numbers of them to people who are considering usign the same contractors, for maybe a small fee? Not sure how this could be done protecting the privacy of everybody but I am sure it would be an immensely useful service!

  2. OP

I appreciate that you took the time to post your experience. At the least it will make future clients cautious. Please don’t get discouraged from posting your experiences.

  3. people are afraid to post names because they fear retaliation from the contractor who might turn out to be dangerous or nuts.
    maybe both.

  4. I think we’ve all dealt with not-so-great contractors at one point or another, but as another poster points out, we’re mostly reluctant to post names. Not sure why.

But for statements to be libelous, they have to be proved untrue. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone angry enough to post names has the proof to back them up.

Also, if these clowns can’t even be bothered to show up to a job that they’re being *paid* to do, I doubt they’d have the wherewithal to hie their ass down to civil court to file a libel suit. More people should out these rip off artists. We’d all be better for it.

  5. Very interesting post from 2:26 – I think 2:26 IS one of the aforementioned contractors.

What kind of response is “My dear. Hmmmm. 2 contractors and 2 bad experiences, sounds like you were at fault!” and “Contractors are expensive these days because of the cost of living adjustments, deliveries…”

It’s not a logical rebuttal and what do “the cost of living adjustments” have to do with the allegations of dishonesty and bullying?

It’s one thing to get a price (and it will be expensive) to have work done, and another to have that price change because the contractor made poor estimates and spent all your deposit on things unrelated to your job. This will then lead to the contractor strongarming you into signing off on bogus cost increases once your house in in shambles.

If you had a good experience with someone, God bless – the rest of us face a crapsoot going in and a weak process for recovering anything you lose.

I wouldn’t make potentially libelous statements like the OP did, but thanks for the warning.

  6. please put the noose away . my goodness how you quickly bash these guys just because things didn’t go your way.I would love to hear from these guys as to what happen and anyone who they’ve done work for. we all agree and disagree and go our separate ways but you want to hold on because you don’t want to pay.
