I need some recommendations for aprofessional who can repair my large front double doors. They are the (original?) tall ones with long glass panels. They are very badly damaged around the lock area, have visible gaps on the bottom, and are fairy gucked up with paint. Cost is a consideration.

  1. hey april, shop around my friend. you will find someone good and cheaper than this guy
10:00. he admits to 9:27 that he is recommending himself and how good his price is.what a joke.

  2. $3000-$4000 is a rip off. another few hundred dollars and you’re in the ball park for brand new doors.
10:00 you must be the one looking to do this job , my doors and frame was stained and it only cost $1600 and it was a good job

  3. $3000 to $4000 sounds like a good price to have the job done properly. If he is insured and has a shop- it would not be not be unreasonable to spend forty hours on the project. Pick-up, stripping, repairs, staining, at least three coats of varnish, delivery, and re-installation- that is a lot of work. You may find someone cheaper (without a shop) but you will be back on this forum complaining about how they started a fire in your house. Wait until you can afford it and do it right, you will not regret it.

  4. $3000-$4000 seems very high. Front doors just 1 side is about $1500 hundred if they’re
stained. you can add a little more for repairs and if they’re painted.

  5. OP here: I had a guy who restores furniture and doors come in and look at the situation and he told me he typically charges about $3000-4000 to strip the doors down to their original glory and repair/recreate as needed. He walked me around the neighborhood (Stuy Heights) to show me some of the other doors he’s done over the years vs. the crap quick paint jobs others do. I believe he’ll do a good job but with a price that high I may have to leave this project for later (I’m just finishing up a gut renovation so funds are tight). I may just leave my ugly gate up or get someone to do the very minimum on the double doors just to get them working again 🙁

  6. My doors were stripped and repaired on site,
I had joe salem from woodzone do it for me.
He said it would be easier to do in his shop
but doing it on site was not a problem.
    his phone #718-755-6527.
