wood over marble?
Anyone know if it’s possible to cement or glue wood flooring over marble? We have some left over and need to do over the front foyer anyway (the marble is greatly damaged) and have considered using the wood. Any ideas?

Great to see this post. I have a similar but bigger situation. Our entire parlor floor is marble and expensive marble at that. However, it looks hideous and we want wood flooring. To rip the marble out would be a massive undertaking requiring jackhammers and would really trash our house. We are looking into whether or not it’s possible to lay wood over the marble as well. I’m waiting to hear back from a few installers so will let you know what we hear. If anyone else has insight to offer, that would be appreciated.
it may be easier to put new tile over the marble. you may have to rip up the marble to get wood to stay down properly long term. they do sell very thin sheets of marble that should glue down, which could permanently ruin the old marble below. i hope this helps a little, the previous posters seem upset in the event you might ruin original marble when it may be restorable. many old things look beautiful restored even with cracks that could be filled with artisanship.
I think you are lazy, the wood is a terrible idea.
You could probably buy honed marble pieces that could be cut and used to fix the problem pieces.
Why don’t you remove the marble first? Dumb question, or is there more I’m not understanding?
Try cleaning up the marble with a mixture of oxalic acid and zinc oxide in a 4:1 mixture (4oa to 1zo). Use a low rpm floor sander with a black pad, and keep wet as you clean it. RINCE WELL AND IMMEDIATELY AND RINSE A FEW MORE TIMES. The chemical can permanently damage the marble and surrounding finishes if not rinsed well. You can then hone the shine and clean up the residue with a neutral cleaner like Fila cleaner, or a polisher like Gialotex, once again using the low rpm floor machine, but this time with a red pad. Again keep wet and rinse very well. Your marble will look great and you don’t have to use a toxic acid like muriatic. How much mixture per sqf tk…
