Has anyone used the ‘Miracle Method’ or the company ‘Custom Spraying’ for bathtub reglazing? We received comparable quotes from both to reglaze a small bathtub and tiled tub surround for a rental apartment. I was wondering if anyone out there had good or bad experiences with either company. Has the finish held up over time or have you needed to make any repairs? Any info would be appreciated.

Less than quotes I see on earlier posts

  2. I had a tub, a sink and the intact but battered tile walls done last summer before we sold our place in DC.

Fumes are significant, but manageable. The stuff is basically auto body paint. Don’t do this on a 15-degree day, and get the kids out of the house for a few hours. Before spraying, the go at the old surface with an acid etch.

If you can take the tub out, even to get it into the middle of the bathroom so they can work all the way around it, you’ll get a better result.

They should do a thorough masking job of the whole room. The mist from the spray is pretty fine, and will get on things otherwise.

Make sure to check the finish for drips and ‘orange peel’ surface flaws, both of which I had, and both of which can and should be easily fixed by the vendor.

The finish looks pretty good. From what I read at the time, you need to be careful about using abrasive cleaners on it (make a note to your renters about that).

Even then, the likely life seems to be somewhere between 5 and 10 years.

I did notice when reinstalling hardware in the sink that it’s not hard to chip this stuff. So keep your rock collection away from the tub.

I was hugely skeptical about how it would look on the old tile walls, and quite plesantly surprised at the outcome. YMMV, of course.

  3. There are a lot of fumes from the paint, but they vent with an exhaust fan if there is a window in the bathroom. Keep the windows open. If you have pets, you may want to move them for the day. It takes 24 hours for the tub to dry, about a day for the smell to leave.

  4. We used Affordable Glazing in Brooklyn. He did a great job, and he is less expensive than Miracle Method. I think he charged us $425 plus tax, which is a competitive price. Also, he does not use the acid etching when he does the glazing, which is the same theory used by Miracle Method. A lot of the places use acid etching, which is the older and cheaper way to strip the tub.
