We were considering painting the back of our house but the guy we were going to hire said we should use thuraseal instead. Does anyone have any experience with this?
We have to do something to make the back look better, it has been painted over and has chipping cement, which we will be repairing. Thanks for any advice.

  1. Thoroseal is a cementitious based material. It will bond to the brick,no way you could remove it.
Thorolastic is a masonry paint by the same brand (Thoro).Good stuff, but limited colors.
I think Thorolastic is the way to go.
Prep the wall, replace damaged brick, repair pointing etc…

  2. If you are painting brick it needs to be able to breath. Theroseal/Therocoat is the way to do that. Check for bulges to make sure the brick is still sound. You might want to chip away the cement or stucco and have a peek in a couple of places.

  3. Theroseal/Therocoat are good I had it applied some twenty plus years ago. It’s only starting to go now.
Prep is important though. Surface has got to be clean.
