I need to get a small amount of base cap milled (50ft or so) and want to know 1) what I should expect to pay, roughly, per LF and 2) if any Brownstoners can recommend someone for this work? thanks in advance.

  1. I had a large base cap molding made up at southslope woodworks (advertises here) for $10/per foot. It was already primed when it was delivered.

  2. 1:03. It’s really not by the lf. They charge all kind of fees, between the the knife, wood and labor it all adds up. In the end it’s way over priced.

  4. Do a search on the internet for millworks in the midwest. A few years ago I had some custom molding milled and it was half the price that I would have paid here. I sent them a sample of my molding, they made a knife, which was an extra charge(I believe it was around $150) and then charged me about $3 ft for the actual molding. If they already have the knife for your molding, then you don’t pay that charge. Sorry, I don’t remember the name of the place.
