Our double entry doors have beautiful antique pulls, but no latch. That is, the only thing holding them shut is the deadbolt. We’re planning to change the pulls for some kind of reproduction set, but are having trouble finding anything nice for double doors. There would have to be a deadbolt and latch on one side, and matching dummy handles on the other. The problem isn’t the bolt/latch side, of course, it’s the matching handle on the other side. Apparently, most people in this world don’t have double entry doors!
Anyone have a lead on great door hardware?
You are correct. We purchased two entry door handles on EBAY fopr a great price, figuring that there must be some way to adapt them for double handle look.
problem was that they would have ended up too close together, so we had to go with one brass handle on two doors.
I bought entry door handlesets from (believe it or not) handlesets.com. They have a great range of styles and brands.
You’re right, they are virtually non-existant. Login to http://www.houseofantiquehardware.com and go into the Entry Door Set section under door hardware. I’ve worked with them on a few other things where they’ve made some changes. You cn talk to the “technical people” there and they are helpful. They might put a set together for you. Look at the sets where the deadbolt is separate from the lever/knob entry setup. The prices are not so high that maybe you can’t buy 2 sets and just use the second set of plates and knob/lever.
