Bad Sidewalk & Broken Ankles

I’ll heal, but in the meantime is there something I should do? Someone I should tell? Report that the sidewalk is just not safe? I hope your only answers aren’t “Sue!”
call a cement contractor? duh…
Does anyone know the process for fixing the sidewalk in front of your own house?
Why is the response always “call 311” or “call the cops” or my favorite, “call an attorney”. Why don’t you try to settle things in house first, ring their bell and have a conversation. If they are a reasonable person they’ll feel awful about it, apologize, and fix it. Even kidergartners know that nobody likes a tattle tale.
bklyn fire alarm guy needs an attitude correction
Call 311 and report the sidewalk. If it’s a business or a multi-family building they will be ordered to repair the sidewalk.
It’s something that helps other people avoid falling. Ignore guys like Brooklyn Fire Alarm Guy who basically advise to forget it and let an old lady fall there and break her hip. Nice!
Did I say I was suing? These people and their assumptions, I asked for alternatives to suing didn’t I? Anyways, I have a weak ankle I’ll admit it, but the last two times was a pot hole in NY 4 years ago, and now a sidewalk. Maybe I’ll get a Segway Personal Transporter, never use my feet again.
How ’bout look where you’re walking. You really think you deserve a payout because you’re uncoordinated?
Sorry to hear that. Also happened to a friend of mine (she broke her foot tripping on some broken sidewalk). She didn’t want to get into a legal thing and just chalked it up to bad luck. But you could write a letter to the building owner telling them that they should fix the sidewalk, so this doesn’t happen again. Did you check nyc.gov? You could call 311 and file a “complaint.”
done and done. 🙂
