How do i wash a 40 year old parquet
floor?
My mom says a drop of vinegar in water with a string mop.
Is she nuts?

What are the different methods?

  1. Hello-
I recently moved into my new apartment and I cleaned the parquet floors with Murphy’s Oil Soap and it did a FANTASTIC job of getting off years of grime. I scrubbed with a sponge on my hands and knees though.

VINEGAR CAN RUST METALS!!! Don’t forget that vinegar use can rust metals and may void a product’s warranty.

That being said, I still plan to use Quickie’s ‘Dust Mop’ with water and vinegar for regular cleaning.

    * Using vinegar voids their warranty*

Whatever cleaner and whatever mop you use, ALWAYS USE AS LITTLE WATER AS POSSIBLE or go over the area with a fry mop.

Thanks for hearing my opinions 🙂

  2. BE CAREFUL how much water you get on the floor soaking into cracks and wood grain. I suggest you concentrate on drying the floor after washing. Vinegar is a great cleaner so don’t be afraid to use it.

  3. Murphy’s leaves a residue, and even their own web site says it is not good to use on wood floors. Vinegar is the best… and on windows, too. Go Kim and Aggie!
