I frequently post on Brownstoner so this is an honest recommendation, not an advertisement. I found John Fitzgerald when searching old posts for someone who could fix my pocket doors. It’s very skilled work due to the doors warping and the building settling. John did a great job, his prices are very reasonable, he shows up when he says he will and he even cleans up. I’d highly recommend him for carpentry or basic plumbing needs.

I also used John Fitzgerald recently to order and install a new window and patio door. He did a great job on it. He typically showed up when he said he would but he always answered calls when he was late and gave an updated ETA.
After he ordered the window and door he called to tell me status on the order and when they were coming in. Usually with contractors or even businesses I have to call and find out where things are at.
I was also impressed that even after I had paid for the job and needed extra documents for tax purposes he went out of his way to provide all that I asked for.
I found him easy to work with, he cleaned up pretty well – much better than any other contractor I’ve had, and offered a good price.

Well, I will admit I called him the morning he was first supposed to come by to confirm he was coming and he obviously had forgotten but he showed up later. After that he was very punctual. The job actually took considerably longer than he thought it would but he didn’t ask for anymore money. He didn’t even mention it and only said when I brought it up that it was his fault. I gave him an extra $100 for his trouble.

I had to chase him and then got a second appointment.
Still no show.
